Austin, Ayush, and Faiz worked on developing a novel barrier called the conductive adhesive barrier (or CAB) to protect the surface of the perovskite photoabsorber from electrolyte corrosion while retaining the charge collection efficiency by >99%. This enables the use of halide perovskite solar cells as photoelectrochemical cells that can directly convert sunlight to hydrogen by splitting water using electrons produced from the solar cell.

They also reported a record high 20.8% solar to hydrogen conversion for Silicon-perovskite tandem photoelectrochemical cells with a t60 stability of 102h.
